With grattitude ..
At the start of this year I look back in gratitude for the many gifts that Merce Cunningham has given to the dance community. With the end of the Mondays With Merce series and the close of his company this year, I have heard many dancers and choreographers speak with sadness as we reach the end of the celebration and commemoration of his life and work.

If dance is to be brought into universal use, if it is to help in the development of a more general appreciation of human art values, it must be considered educationally. The future of dance as a democratic art activity rests with our education system.
