For the past three summers I have had the opportunity to reflect, recharge and re-inspire myself as a dance educator by participating in the MA in Dance Education summer program at UNCG. Having already acquired my MFA and finding myself in full time K-12 education, I really wanted the community and discourse of looking at dance education in the 21st century. I feel so lucky to have been able to reflect with dance education leaders like Mila Parrish, Janet Lilly, Martha Eddy and Terri Winchell, and outstanding colleagues in the field that were part of my cohort. Taking time in the summer to be a dancer is so important as a teacher. Our students need us to stay current and relative in our field. We must continue to ask questions, re-examine what we do and why we do it and put our selves into the learning to learn.
